據《彭博社》援引知情人士消息報導，Instagram 正開發以文字為主的應用程式將與 Twitter 競爭，最快可能今年 6 月推出。
Instagram 尚未給該程式一個單獨名稱，只是稱它為「Instagram 基於文本的新對話應用程式」，代號為 P92 或 Barcelona，用戶能使用 Instagram 帳號密碼登入，關注對象、用戶名、驗證等都會從主應用程式銜接。
從 Lia Haberman 報導洩漏的圖片可以看到，Instagram 新程式能發表高達 500 字且附上連結、照片、5 分鐘影片的貼文，看起來很像把 Instagram 和 Twitter 混在一起。彭博社報導，Instagram 這幾個月一直在祕密測試這款類似 Twitter 的新程式，最早準備於 6 月推出。

隨著 Twitter 市場好感度持續惡化，許多使用者正在尋找更新推文新去處，據美國皮尤研究中心（Pew Research Center）調查，自從馬斯克接手 Twitter，最活躍的 Twitter 用戶發文數量就減少了約 25%，還有四分之一受訪者表示 1 年後不太可能會繼續使用該平台，Instagram 新程式可能因此成為比 Twitter 更受歡迎的同類型 App。
